Metabolic Reset Test  

This hormone test includes a progesterone test which is designed to be measured 7 days before the predicted date of menstruation. This is when progesterone levels should be at their peak and confirms whether you have ovulated this cycle. If you do not need this specific piece of information then you can take the test on any day of your cycle.

Does it matter which day of my cycle I take this test?

If your cycle is irregular, consider taking the test on day 3 of your cycle (counting day 1 as the first day of your period). Day 3 sits in the follicular phase - this makes it an easy date to act on the moment your period arrives (no need to predict your next one) and ensures we can apply the correct reference ranges to your results.

The one trade-off to be aware of is that day-3 testing won't give insight into ovulation, since that's reflected by progesterone rising later in your cycle (around day 21). For most people with irregular cycles, a reliably-timed baseline is more informative than a mis-timed sample — but if understanding ovulation is a priority for you, it's worth discussing with your GP.

If you are no longer menstruating, or don't anticipate having a period for a while, you can take this test at any time.

When is the best time to take the hormone test if my periods are irregular?

It is best to __avoid strenuous exercise__ for 24 hours prior to prevent spiking certain enzymes, and while you should continue taking prescribed medications, consider __skipping supplements like Biotin__ that can interfere with lab accuracy. Here’s how to prepare for a microbiome test:

- 2 weeks before the test, cease taking antibiotics and antifungal drugs, unless instructed otherwise by your practitioner.
- 3 days before the test, cease taking oral castor oil, probiotics, laxatives, aspirin or ibuprofen. Also cease taking all gut associated supplements like pre- and probiotics, digestive enzymes, detox/liver herbs and minerals, amino acids unless instructed otherwise by your practitioner.
- 2 days before the test, follow your normal diet, including the following foods if possible: meat, fish, poultry, vegetables (raw and cooked), carbohydrates (potatoes, rice, pasta, bread), fats (butter, margarine, oils). If you do not eat some of these foods, you can still do the test. Vegetarians and vegans should eat their normal diet.

When will I receive my microbiome results and what should I do next?

"Shotgun" refers to reading all the DNA fragments in a sample at once and reassembling what's there, rather than testing for specific targets. The practical difference: a targeted test answers "are these particular organisms present?" while shotgun sequencing answers "what is actually in here?"

What does shotgun sequencing actually mean?

Antibiotics significantly disturb the microbiome, so it's generally best to wait after finishing a course rather than test in the immediate aftermath. You may also be advised to pause probiotics before collecting. Your kit has specific instructions — check with your GP before pausing anything they've prescribed.

Do I need to stop probiotics or antibiotics first?

Some findings need medical follow-up, and certain infections are notifiable — the laboratory is required to report those to the public health authority, and you may be contacted. If something like this appears, take it to your doctor.

What happens if a pathogen or parasite is found?

Is this a test for coeliac disease or food allergy?

How do I prepare for the Dried Urine Hormone Test?

How do I prepare for a DNA test?

MTHFR is one gene in the methylation pathway, and the one that gets the most attention because common variants in it affect how efficiently you convert folate into its active form. It matters — but it's one gene among many in the pathway, and a result only means something in the context of the others. That's why this test reports the pathway rather than a single variant.

What is MTHFR and why does everyone talk about it?
