Abdominal Ultrasound

1 test included
An abdominal ultrasound is a simple, painless scan that produces detailed, real‑time images of the organs in your midsection — your liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, spleen and the large blood vessels of your abdomen. It uses sound waves, so there's no radiation and nothing invasive. The images are captured by an accredited sonographer and reported by a specialist radiologist, giving you and your doctor clear information to discuss together. An ultrasound provides information about the structure of these organs; it isn't a diagnosis on its own, and your report will always guide you to appropriate medical follow‑up where needed.

Detailed images of your abdominal organs

An abdominal ultrasound lets an accredited sonographer look at the organs in your abdomen in real time, using sound waves rather than radiation. Some people have this scan because a doctor has recommended it; others choose it to better understand their health and then discuss the results with their GP.

In about 20–30 minutes, the scan can provide information about your:

  • Liver — size and texture, including signs sometimes associated with fatty liver
  • Gallbladder & bile ducts — such as gallstones or thickening
  • Kidneys — including stones, cysts, or changes in size or structure
  • Pancreas & spleen — size and structure
  • Abdominal aorta — including its width, which your doctor may wish to monitor

There's no radiation and nothing invasive — just a small handheld probe and some gel.

Is this scan right for you?

Is this scan right for you?

An abdominal ultrasound isn't necessary for everyone. If you're unsure whether it's appropriate for your situation, we'd encourage you to discuss it with your GP first — particularly if you have symptoms, a relevant family history, or an existing condition. If you already have symptoms that concern you, please see your doctor rather than relying on a scan alone.

What you'll receive Your images are reported by a specialist radiologist, and your results come with clear, practitioner‑reviewed insights that explain what the scan showed. Where anything would benefit from medical review, your report will say so and recommend you see a doctor. An ultrasound provides information to inform that conversation — it is not a diagnosis.
