Iron measures the amount of circulating iron in your blood, which is essential for energy production, oxygen transport, and healthy red blood cell formation. Low or high levels can indicate iron deficiency, inflammation, or iron overload disorders such as haemochromatosis.

Iron

Transferrin is the main protein that binds and transports iron through your bloodstream, helping regulate how much iron is available to your cells. Levels may rise when your body needs more iron, such as in deficiency, or fall in inflammation or certain health conditions that affect protein production.

Transferrin/ TIBC

Iron saturation shows the percentage of iron bound to transferrin, your blood’s main iron transport protein. It helps identify whether your body has too little or too much available iron, supporting the diagnosis of iron deficiency, inflammation, or iron overload conditions.
