What is a home semen test?
A standard semen analysis has to reach the lab within about an hour of collection, so most men have to produce their sample at a clinic or pathology centre. This test removes that step. The kit contains a preservation liquid that keeps sperm stable for up to 72 hours - enough time for you to collect the sample at home and send it back in the prepaid satchel.
The laboratory runs the same core measurements a fertility clinic uses, and reports them against World Health Organization (WHO) reference values. It’s one of the first tests recommended when a couple has trouble conceiving, and it’s useful for any man who wants to check his fertility before trying. Around 1 in 6 couples have trouble conceiving, and a male factor is involved in roughly 40–50% of cases. Yet men are often tested last, partly because a collection-room appointment puts many men off.
What your results look like
You’ll receive a clear digital report within three working days of the lab receiving your sample. It sets out each marker with your result alongside the WHO reference value, a plain-English summary of what’s in range and what isn’t, and your next steps — including when to retest, and when to see your GP or a fertility specialist. One result below a reference value doesn’t mean you’re infertile: sperm quality naturally varies from sample to sample, so a low result is usually confirmed with a repeat test.
