A food sensitivity response takes place in the gut, and it occurs when you are unable to properly breakdown the food. This could be due to enzyme deficiencies, sensitivity to food additives or reactions to naturally occurring chemicals in foods. Often people can eat small amounts of the food without causing problems.
The ALCAT® diagnostic system is more comprehensive than traditional IgG antibody food sensitivity tests, as it uses whole blood which contains all of the immune factors (not just IgG antibodies), cells and proteins that might be involved in an adverse reaction to a food.
Note that the ALCAT test isn't intended for allergies which are specific immune responses which involve IgE antibodies and can cause severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, skin rashes or rhinitis - refer to our Allergy Check for more information.
